Dr. Lukas Meßmann studierte von 2011 bis 2017 Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen an der Universität Augsburg. Seit 2017 ist er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Production & Supply Chain Management und der interdisziplinären Forschungsgruppe „Resource Lab“ am Zentrum für Klimaresilienz. Seine Dissertation mit dem Titel „Strategic Design of Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Supply Networks“ (summa cum laude), die 2023 mit dem „Jacqueline Bloemhof PhD Thesis Award on Sustainable Supply Chains“ ausgezeichnet wurde, verteidigte er erfolgreich am 22. Juni 2022.

In seiner Forschung beschäftigt er sich mit nachhaltigen und klimaresilienten Wertschöpfungsketten, wobei er Methoden der Industrial Ecology (darunter Ökobilanzierung und Social Life Cycle Assessment) mit Methoden des Operations Research (v.a. multikriterielle Optimierung) kombiniert. Inhaltliche Forschungsschwerpunkte sind u.a. nachhaltige Krankenhäuser, landwirtschaftliche Produktion und Lebensmittellieferketten, Produkte der Bioökonomie sowie Rücknahmenetzwerke für Elektroaltgeräte.

Im Bereich der Lehre ist oder war er an den Vorlesungen „Sustainable Operations“, „Industrial Ecology“, „Ressourceneffizienz & Resilienz“ und „Einführung in die Betriebswirtschaftslehre“ sowie am Zertifizierungskurs SAP TS410 beteiligt, und verantwortet die Logistikseminare mit IBM ILOG CPLEX.

Von Oktober bis Dezember 2023 war er Gastforscher an der University of Tokyo und von April bis Juli 2024 an Dänemarks Technischer Universität (DTU).

Seit Januar 2025 ist Dr. Lukas Meßmann gemeinsam mit Miriam Köhler am Green Office der Universität Augsburg für das Klimaschutzmanagement der Universität verantwortlich.
