Neurobiologie umweltbedingter Stoffwechselerkrankungen

 

Unser Hauptinteresse ist die Erforschung der zentralnervösen Regulation des Essverhaltens und der Energiehomöostase. In den meisten modernen Industriegesellschaften bietet sich dem überwiegenden Anteil der Bevölkerung eine adipogene Umwelt, also Lebensbedingungen, die krankhafte Fettleibigkeit (Adipositas) fördern und schließlich lebensbedrohliche Folgeerkrankungen wie Diabetes, Krebs, Herzinfarkt und Schlaganfall bei den Betroffenen begünstigen. Zudem erhöht Adipositas die Wahrscheinlichkeit für schwere Covid-19 Krankheitsverläufe und gilt als ein Risikofaktor für neurologische Erkrankungen.

 

In diesem Zusammenhang fokussiert sich die AG 1 mit der Adipositas auf eine ernährungsbedingte, systemische metabolische Erkrankung. Die übergeordnete Fragestellung in diesem Zusammenhang lautet, wie Essgewohnheiten, Diäten und natürliche Nahrungsbestandteile die Funktion unseres Gehirns und somit unser Verhalten und unsere Gesundheit beeinflussen.

 

Zudem untersuchen wir die physiologische und pathologische Relevanz von Gewebsmakrophagen für die strukturelle und funktionelle Plastizität definierter Gehirnregionen. Wir möchten verstehen, wie sich Ernährung und andere Umweltfaktoren auf die Arbeitsweise der Mikroglia in definierten ZNS-Regionen auswirken.
