"Provenance, acquisition and restitution: The archeological collections at Allard Pierson (University of Amsterdam)"

Im Kolloquium Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte freuen wir uns auf einen Vortrag von Rogier Kalkers (M.A.) Allard Pierson Museum (Universität Amsterdam), zur Provenienz, Erwerbung und Restitution der Archäologischen Sammlung des Allard Pierson Museums.

Abstract:
The Allard Pierson (University of Amsterdam) is conducting research into the provenance history of the archaeological collections over the period 2023-2027. There is little information available on the provenance of many of these approximately 20,000 artefacts from around the Mediterranean, Western Asia, and Northern Africa. The Allard Pierson intends to investigate these gaps, gather as much information on the items as possible and make it available to the public, taking responsibility for unveiling and combatting the ongoing illicit trade in antiquities. Crucially, this also means to actively participate in the societal debate on heritage ownership, both in the Netherlands and in the source countries of the collection.
