Today’s window boxes in Philadelphia are a remainder and result of successive window gardening campaigns undertaken by female reformers and activists in the early and mid-twentieth century.

Unearthing this history, this presentation shows how window boxes and their plants were catalysts of neighborhood change, but also helped to camouflage the larger social problems and their causes which only politics and policies colud address.
