For the reconstruction of three female convents in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico, Prof Timpf collects geodata together with a group of geoinformatics and geography students with expertise in GIS, surveying, CAD, photogrammetry and drone flight. The project was initiated by Dr. Franziska Neff from the UNAM in Mexico in collaboration with Dr. Pia Heberer from the institute of computer science as well as given support by Prof. Theo Ungerer.

The task is to first provide the basis for accurate building plans by surveying the buildings and their sites, add to this the details measured manually (such as thickness of walls, accurate window forms etc.) and produce a CAD plan. In addition fotos were taken for rendering a photogrammetric 3D model, supplemented by LIDAR data. For fotos needed in greater heights and overview fotos, a drone was made available and used. The collection of data happened in March 2024, intermediate results are presented in a public “ Conversatorio” (YouTube video, in Spanish), the final results ready by the end of September 2024.
