Next event: Augsburg City Tour

Regio Augsburg Tourismus

Saturday, October 12, 2024

Founded shortly before the turn of the millennium around 0 BC, Augsburg is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Augsburg is not only associated with Jakob Fugger and the Fuggerei, but also with personalities such as Bertold Brecht, Leopold Mozart and Rudolf Diesel. From Roman times to the present day, Augsburg has a lot to offer its visitors - no matter what your interests are!

The guided tour takes us through the historic city centre with its magnificent fountains, towers and churches. We will stroll along Maximilianstraße with its splendid buildings and courtyards as well as along the Lech canals where the craftsmen’s houses are located.
After the tour, we will have lunch together.

Registration for events of the Welcome Service

Events Offered

Every semester, the Welcome Service offers a comprehensive range of events. This offer is intended to contribute to the success of the stay abroad of the internationally mobile researchers visiting our university.

In particular, the events serve as networking opportunities and allow researchers to establish contacts more easily within the university.

The following types of events are offered for researchers from abroad:

If you are interested, please contact us directly via e-mail ( welcome@aaa.uni-augsburg.de).

Networking Reception

Every semester, the Welcome Service organizes a reception for researchers from abroad and their hosts. The purpose of the reception is to welcome all researchers from abroad to Augsburg University and to acknowledge the commitment of their hosts.

After an official welcome by Prof. Dr. Peter Welzel, Vice President for Research, Internationalization, Human Resources Development and Strategic Financial Planning, there will be the opportunity for an interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange of experiences over a small snack. The reception also provides an ideal opportunity for cross-faculty networking.

The networking reception takes place in October during the winter semester and in May during the summer semester. The dates will be announced several weeks in advance.

Events in Augsburg

Every semester, the Welcome Service offers numerous events within Augsburg.

These events give international researchers the opportunity to get to know the city of Augsburg better and to establish contact with each other. Family members who have come to Augsburg or are visiting can also take part in the events.

Excursions in the region

Schloss Neuschwanstein © University of Augsburg

Not only the city of Augsburg, but also the rest of Bavaria has a lot to offer. Therefore, the Welcome Service organizes three big excursions every semester. The aim of these excursions is for the international scholars to get to know each other and explore the region while spending a pleasant day, far away from everyday university life. Family members who have come to Augsburg or are visiting can also take part in the excursions.

The offer is extremely wide-ranging: from city trips and museum visits to boat trips and hikes in nature, everything is included. In addition to the most important sights in Bavaria, such as Neuschwanstein Castle or the state capital Munich, insider tips such as the medieval town of Landsberg am Lech or the Partnachklamm gorge have also been visited in recent semesters. Beyond Bavarian excursion destinations, the cities of Salzburg and Bregenz in neighboring Austria have also been explored.

Scientific Talk

With the Scientific Talk, a new series of lectures is being established which enables researchers from abroad to present their fields of research to other researchers as well as to a broader public. Thus, an international academic exchange not only internally, but also outside the university will be possible.

On May 28, 2019, a Scientific Talk was held for the first time in cooperation with the Sparkassen Planetarium Augsburg, which attracted great attention.

More information can be found in the event flyer .

Due to the pandemic, further Scientific Talks were held virtually via Zoom in an internal setting and were well received overall.
