Research topics: Measuring climate mitigation measures in Bavaria
Evaluating the effectiveness of climate mitigation measures is becoming increasingly important. In view of the urgency of the climate crisis, many states have initiated programmes to evaluate their efforts in climate mitigation. However, practical evaluation systems are still lacking.
The Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection (StMUV) cancelled this project unilaterally on 16 May 2025. We regret this decision, which we find incomprehensible, and emphasise that our project team has fully complied with all obligations within the scope of the project. The recent reporting on the planned cancellation of the Bavarian climate report illustrates the wider context in which this decision by the StMUV was made. With the cancellation of the climate report, a central instrument for the systematic evaluation and transparent communication of climate mitigation measures in Bavaria will be missing. We do not agree that the information provided by the Bavarian State Statistical Office is sufficient to replace targeted climate reporting.
