Musical start to the semester at the Leopold Mozart College of Music
The Leopold Mozart College of Music is hosting two events to start the new semester.
As a welcome to the new semester, the Leopold Mozart College of Music will be holding a concert on the 18th of October in the Golden Hall of the Augsburg Town Hall. It also invites members of the university and broader community to its open day at the Grottenau on the 21st of October. “To the new semester!” – Concert to open the new semester on 18th of October 2023 To open the new winter semester 2023/24, the Leopold Mozart College of Music (LMC) at the University of Augsburg invites you to a traditional concert to be held in the Golden Hall of the Augsburg Town Hall followed by a reception. Students at the Leopold Mozart College of Music will present works by Mozart, Schubert, Pärt, and many others. The programme was developed over two project weeks in which a total of around 100 students from Germany, China, Taiwan, and Great Britain, including around 40 first-year students as well as teaching staff at the LMC, visited the Federal Music Academy in Trossingen and the Roggenburg Monastery. The goal was to get into the mood for the new academic year in a creative, productive, and collaborative atmosphere. First-year students in particular showed great enthusiasm for the project as a way of starting this new phase of their lives. Date: Wednesday, 18th of October 2023 at 19:30 pm Around 300 students currently study at the LMC, with 37 musicians beginning their studies in the new bachelor’s degree programme in music in the winter semester of 2023/24 and a further 34 beginning their studies in the master’s degree programme in music. Grottenau open day on the 21st of October 2023 An open day at the Grottenau in the Augsburg town centre will take place on Saturday 21st of October. The Leopold Mozart College of Music at the University of Augsburg is offering a full programme in the concert hall, including a scenic play with students from the vocal department, with TaKeTiNa rhythm pedagogy inviting visitors to participate. Concert formats with piano, violoncello, and percussion will provide musical diversity. Historical keyboard instruments will also be on display.

Augsburg has a long tradition of providing high-quality musical education. The Augsburg music school was founded in 1873, which became a conservatorium in 1926. Since 2008, musical education has taken place under the namesake of Leopold Mozart as part of the University of Augsburg. After 15 years, the Leopold Mozart College of Music moved to a new building in the former post office Grottenau, which has been newly renovated to house the revised musical education programmes. The structure of the Leopold Mozart College of Music is unique in Germany as it offers high-quality, personally supervised musical education in the context of a full university. Collaborative research projects in cooperation with other disciplines at the university gives it a unique character.
Students at the LMC have the possibility to partake in non-musical seminars and courses offered by three faculties at the university as well as in-depth language courses at the Language Centre. In addition, the LMC offers students diverse opportunities for participating in university concerts. Due to its excellent location in the middle of the Augsburg city centre, music lovers can enjoy old and new music from piano and vocal recitals to concerts with a choir or symphony orchestra in the historic, optimally equipped concert hall.
