About me

I am a researcher within the IDK International Environmental Humanities program ‘Rethinking Environment’ at the University of Augsburg. I am interested in development studies, especially the shortcomings of rural development interventions. In this program, I am learning more about how development intervention projects for environmental sustainability related topics approached conceptually, methodologically, and analytically. I have received Master of Science at Cornell University (Community-Based Natural Resource Management) and Bachelor (Environmental Sustainability and Anthropology) at the American University of Central Asia, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

“Green Agendas” and Development Assistance in Kyrgyzstan 2000-2023: A Scoping Review

There is a wide research gap in the effectiveness of aid assistance in lower-middle income countries, especially concerning environmental issues. Taking a synthesis approach, a scoping review was carried out to understand the outcomes of environmental aid in Kyrgyzstan. This study begins with a critical stance on the limitation of environmental orthodoxies promoted by development cooperation. A scoping review methodology has been applied for data collection, analysis and synthesis. The study selected and analyzed 80 academic publications focused on aid initiatives. Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria, Protocol, and the PRISMA flow chart for Scoping Reviews (ScR) have been applied. Besides the standard study characteristics, this study provides data to better capture the interface of environmental aid in the country by charting organizations, environmental policies, aid projects, locations, impact, and recommendations. Based on data analysis of 80 publications for the period 2000-2023, this study reveals a web of development organizations, the presence of numerous environmental policies, and donor-funded intervention projects within the limits of data in selected papers. This indicates an active presence of donor organizations engaged in promoting environmental politics in the country, but the research is limited to reflect on their effectiveness. Thematic summary is applied to provide a textual summary.

Recently, I have communicated the findings at the International Mountain Conference 2025 in Innsbruck, Austria: https://imc2025.info/imc25/abstract/impact-of-development-assistance-on-environmental-sustainability-in-kyrgyzstan-scoping-review/

While I am aiming to publish the findings in 2026, the poster available online: https://imc2025.info/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Cc_by-nc-nd_icon.svg
