Important Further Links
The examination process—from (personal) planning through registration and execution—is governed by various regulations. The following provides an overview of key points to consider and how to proceed in the event of (potential) issues.
Important information can primarily be found on the following pages:
Important Deadlines
Registering for Examinations During the Current Semester
General deadlines related to examinations include the exam registration period via the STUDIS system. These deadlines are set in advance for each semester and can be found on the Examinations Office website. It is essential that you register for your exams within the specified period. Exceptions include final theses, research and project modules, and the industrial or practical training modules. If in doubt, ask the lecturer responsible for your course.
Please note: Late registration is difficult and must be requested through the Examinations Office. Approval by the examination board can only be granted if valid and verifiable reasons are provided.
Orientation Examinatio
The orientation examination defines which assessments must be successfully completed during the early stages of your studies (usually within the first three semesters). The specific requirements and deadlines are set out in the examination regulations.
Important: If you fail to pass all components required for the orientation examination within the deadline, your degree programme will be deemed definitively failed. You may submit a hardship request to the Examinations Office—valid and documented reasons are required for such an application.
Maximum Duration of Stud
Every degree programme, whether Bachelor's or Master's, has a maximum period of study that must not be exceeded. The applicable semester limit is set out in the examination regulations.
Important: If you exceed the maximum duration of study, your degree programme will be considered definitively failed. Hardship applications may be submitted to the Examinations Office with appropriate supporting evidence.
Final These
The deadline for submitting your final thesis (Bachelor’s or Master’s) will be communicated to you in writing by the Examinations Office once your registration has been confirmed.
Please note: If the deadline specified by the Examinations Office falls after the end of your maximum period of study, then the last day of your final semester counts as the absolute deadline. For example, if the current summer semester is your final allowable semester and you register your Master’s thesis on 15 May, the official deadline may be 14 November (six months later). However, since this is after the end of your maximum study period, the real deadline is 30 September. The same applies for the winter semester and, of course, for Bachelor's theses as well.
Compensation for Disadvantages (Nachteilsausgleich)
The examination regulations stipulate the following:
Important Notes on Applying for Compensation for Disadvantages:
-
Submit your written application as early as possible.
-
Provide evidence of a permanent disability or chronic illness through a medical certificate (or, if applicable, a disability ID card).
-
A standard certificate of incapacity for work (sick note) is not accepted.
-
In the case of isolated events (e.g. bereavement, volcanic ash-related disruptions), compensation may only be granted in exceptional and well-justified cases.
