Professorship of Data-driven Computational Materials Science and Engineering

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Weißenfels

Understanding real processes better to enable innovations for future technologies.

A central starting point in the development of new materials or technologies is the virtual design. Numerous scenarios are run through on the computer until the optimum product or the desired process is found. The prerequisite for virtual design is the high fidelity representation of fundamental technical relationships in the form of mathematical equations.

One focus of Prof. Weißenfels is the targeted application of artificial intelligence algorithms to close gaps in the understanding between materials, processes and properties. Another area is dedicated to the development of new methods for simulation in order to be able to approximate the solution of mathematical equations as accurately and efficiently as possible, even in the context of technically demanding processes.
