Curriculum Vitae

Britta Waldschmidt-Nelson has been Professor of Transatlantic History and Culture at the History Deparment of the University of Augsburg since 2016.  Before joining the Augsburg faculty, she has served as Deputy Director of the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C. for five years, and from 1994 to 2011 she taught American history and culture at the University of Munich. She has also been a visiting scholar and guest lecturer at numerous universities in Europe and the United States.

 

Her major research interests are Transatlantic Relations, African American Studies, Gender and Religious History. Among her publications are Europe and America: Cultures in Translation (2006), Christian Science im Lande Luthers: Eine amerikanische Religionsgemeinschaft in Deutschland (2009), Dreams and Nightmares: Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X and the Struggle for Black Equality in America (2011), The Transatlantic Sixties: Europe and the United States in the Counterculture Decade (2013), Malcolm X: Eine Biographie (2015) and Inventing the Silent Majority: Conservative Mobilization in Western Europe and the United States in the 1960s and 1970s (2017).
