This is a joint event hosted by the Graduate Centre, Prof. Dr Simone M. Müller (Global Environmental History & Environmental Humanities), and the international doctoral programme “Re-thinking Environment: The Environmental Humanities and the Ecological Transformation of Society.”

Ryan Tucker Jones holds a PhD in history from Columbia University, located in the City of New York. He is the author of Empire of Extinction: Russians and the North Pacific's Strange Beasts of the Sea, 17411867 (Oxford University Press, 2014) as well as Red Leviathan: The Secret History of Soviet Whaling (University of Chicago Press, 2022).

 

  • The Jakob-Fugger-Zentrum is hosting two digital information events on federal funding for the humanities and cultural and social sciences on the 13th of July 2023.

From 14:30 pm until 15:30 pm, Nicole Fuchs, research officer at DLR Projektträger working in the area of research funding, will present how federal calls for proposals usually work, especially in the humanities and social and cultural sciences, and what applicants need to take into consideration.

From 16:00 pm until 17:00 pm, Susanne Möhring from the federal government’s funding advisory service “Research and Innovation” will introduce the federal funding programme with particular relevance to the humanities and social and cultural sciences.

  • Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Welcome Service on the 19th of July 2023 at 19:00 pm

Following an official welcome by Prof. Dr Peter Welzel, Vice-President for Human Resources Development, Finance, and Internationalisation, as well as other speeches, you will have the opportunity to meet researchers from all over the world as well as engage in inter-faculty and interdisciplinary networking at a casual get-together over drinks and snacks.

Developing resilience and setting boundaries – Resilience training for doctoral candidates (in German)

This workshop is designed to help you stay healthy by reducing and managing stress during this phase of your life. Tips and support are provided for how to act in a resource-oriented way, optimising self-management. Following a look at internal and external habits and interdependencies, the workshop will focus on how to act sustainably as a “whole person.” The aim is to support participants in developing strategies to cope with challenges in a healthy way, developing resilience and learning how to set boundaries for successful long-term stress reduction.

Im Jahr 2025 vergibt die Bernd Rendel-Stiftung im Stifterverband zusammen mit der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) wieder den Bernd Rendel-Preis an voraussichtlich zwei (noch) nicht promovierte Wissenschaftler*innen aus den Geowissenschaften.

Kriterien bei der Preisvergabe sind ein großes wissenschaftliches Potenzial sowie eine außergewöhnlich hohe Qualität und Originalität der Forschungsarbeiten (z. B. Master- oder laufende Dissertationsarbeit). Zudem werden bei der Bewertung der Bewerbung die weiteren Karrierepläne und die beabsichtigte Verwendung des Preisgelds berücksichtigt. Das Preisgeld soll für wissenschaftliche Zwecke verwendet werden.

Es können sowohl Eigenbewerbungen als auch Vorschläge von fachnahen Wissenschaftler*innen eingereicht werden. Bewerbungen beziehungsweise Vorschläge von Kandidat*innen sind bis zum Tag der Verteidigung der Promotion möglich.

 

Für die Bewerbungen beziehungsweise Vorschläge sind folgende Unterlagen erforderlich:

  • Anschreiben mit max. 1-seitiger Begründung
  • Lebenslauf und kurze Beschreibung laufender und eventuell geplanter Arbeiten, in der die bisherigen Publikationen in einen Kontext gebracht werden (DFG-Vordruck 10.40, Link siehe unten)
  • Masterarbeit (oder Diplomarbeit) und Publikationen
  • Befürwortungsschreiben (im Falle eines Vorschlags kann dies schon im Anschreiben enthalten sein)

Bitte reichen Sie Ihre Bewerbung / Ihren Vorschlag bis zum 20. Februar 2025 über das elan-Portal der DFG ein. Das Onlineformular finden Sie unter Antragstellung – Nominierungen – Bernd Rendel-Preis 2025. Das elan-Portal wird ab dem 27. Januar 2025 für Bewerbungen im Rahmen des Preises freigeschaltet sein.
