Ryan Jones (Professor of History, Ann Swindells Chair, University of Oregon, USA) This is a joint event hosted by the Graduate Centre, Prof. Dr Simone M. Müller (Global Environmental History & Environmental Humanities), and the international doctoral programme “Re-thinking Environment: The Environmental Humanities and the Ecological Transformation of Society.” Ryan Tucker Jones holds a PhD in history from Columbia University, located in the City of New York. He is the author of Empire of Extinction: Russians and the North Pacific's Strange Beasts of the Sea, 1741–1867 (Oxford University Press, 2014) as well as Red Leviathan: The Secret History of Soviet Whaling (University of Chicago Press, 2022). From 14:30 pm until 15:30 pm, Nicole Fuchs, research officer at DLR Projektträger working in the area of research funding, will present how federal calls for proposals usually work, especially in the humanities and social and cultural sciences, and what applicants need to take into consideration. From 16:00 pm until 17:00 pm, Susanne Möhring from the federal government’s funding advisory service “Research and Innovation” will introduce the federal funding programme with particular relevance to the humanities and social and cultural sciences. After their presentations, both speakers will be available to answer questions. Further workshops Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences Workshop KLEVER Workshop for doctoral candidates This workshop is designed to help you stay healthy by reducing and managing stress during this phase of your life. Tips and support are provided for how to act in a resource-oriented way, optimising self-management. Following a look at internal and external habits and interdependencies, the workshop will focus on how to act sustainably as a “whole person.” The aim is to support participants in developing strategies to cope with challenges in a healthy way, developing resilience and learning how to set boundaries for successful long-term stress reduction.
