PhD position (m/f/d) in the field of Scientific Computing, Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Materials Engineering

At the Chair of High-Performance Scientific Computing ( https://hpsc.math.uni-augsburg.de) at the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Materials Engineering of the University of Augsburg, we conduct research on efficient numerical methods for adaptive, parallel simulations. Key focuses include coupled multiphysics problems and sustainable software development in high-performance computing. Potential application areas include fluid mechanics, aeroacoustics, weather and climate modeling, or space and astrophysics.

To support our research activities, we are offering a

PhD position (m/f/d)
in the field of Scientific Computing

The position is available at 75% of the regular working hours and is initially limited to three years, with the option to extend to up to six years. The salary is based on the collective agreement for public service employees (TV-L E13), provided personal and tariff requirements are met.

Your responsibilities

  • Conduct research and teaching in an interdisciplinary team
  • Develop scalable methods for complex numerical simulations
  • Extend our open-source simulation code Trixi.jl
  • Participate in international workshops and conferences

Your profile

  • Master’s degree in applied mathematics, computational science, or a comparable field
  • Programming experience in languages such as Julia, C/C++, Fortran, or Python
  • Knowledge in numerical methods for partial differential equations
  • Strong communication skills in German and English
  • Initial experience in numerical software development is desirable

The required qualification must already be proven in the application documents by means of appropriate certificates.
