The Geoinformatics Professorship at the Institute of Geography of the Faculty of Applied Computer Science at the University of Augsburg has a vacancy starting 1 April 2025 for a

Research Assistant (m/f/d) - PostDoc

in a fixed-term employment for a period of 1.5 years (pay group 13 TV-L 100%). The aim is to continue the fixed-term employment with a reduction in working hours. The position can be filled part-time.

The PostDoc will participate in the research and teaching activities of the Professorship of Geoinformatics as part of the Seed-Funding project 'Walkable Augsburg'. This project will lay the foundation for a DFG application to determine safe and pedestrian-friendly routes based on the walkability of Augsburg's streets. The results of the Seed-Funding project will be presented at national and international conferences. As part of the project, contacts will be initiated with potential cooperation partners mainly at scientific conferences. In addition, participation in teaching and exam handling in geography/geoinformatics as well as supervision of final theses is expected. The teaching load of the position is 5 semester hours per week, which is usually translated into two courses.

Your Profile:

  • PhD in a field relevant to the professorship of Geoinformatics (may be open at the time of application but must be completed with the beginning of contract).
  • Excellent English, both written and spoken
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and commitment to independent research
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a research team.

Additional qualifications (advantageous):

  • Previous knowledge of walkability
  • Experience with behavioural studies or surveys
  • Experience or interest in machine learning/artificial intelligence techniques
