University Professor (m/f/d) for Geschichte der Frühen Neuzeit (History of the Early Modern Period), Faculty of Philology and History
The Faculty of Philology and History of the University of Augsburg is seeking to make the following appointment by 1st of october 2026 University Professor The appointment is as a tenured public servant. The University of Augsburg is seeking to appoint an internationally recognised and highly distinguished academic with proven high-level performance in research and teaching. Key selection criteria are the ability to represent the period (16th-18th centuries) in its entire range in research and teaching, excellent achievements in a core area of early modern studies (preferably in the history of Western Europe), high-ranking publications and substantial success in acquiring third-party funding. A clear interest in cross-epochal research and teaching as well as documented teaching experience is expected. The chair is an important part of the faculty's focus on "Teacher Training" and "European Cultural History" and cooperates closely with the "Institute for European Cultural History". The ability and willingness to participate in academic self-administration and digital teaching are required. In addition to the general requirements under public service law, the prerequisites for employment pursuant to Art. 57 Para. 1 BayHIG are a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and the special aptitude for academic work typically demonstrated by the quality of doctorate, as well as additional academic achievement through a habilitation or equivalent qualification, which may have been achieved outside of the university sector or through a junior professorship. Leadership of a junior research group is considered an equivalent academic achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 Para. 10 Sentence 5 BayHIG. Appointment as a public servant is possible only up to the age of 52. Candidates over the age of 52 can be employed within the framework of an employment contract under private law.
