The position will be filled as a tenured civil servant appointment (lifetime professorship), subject to the applicable legal requirements.

The University of Augsburg is seeking to appoint an internationally recognised academic with an outstanding record in research and teaching. We especially encourage applications from researchers at earlier career stages who demonstrate exceptional promise and academic excellence.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in operations management, with a focus on issues arising in the context of digital transformation. Their research should align with at least one of the Faculty’s key research areas: Digital Business & Entrepreneurship, Health & Society, or Sustainability. The use and further development of predictive and prescriptive analytics methods is expected. These methods may originate from fields such as operations research, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or applied statistics.

The appointed professor (m/f/d) will be a member of the Business Analytics & Operations cluster. Teaching responsibilities will include contributions to the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics, as well as teaching in cooperation with other faculties.

Key selection criteria include an outstanding publication record in high-ranking international scientific journals and the demonstrated or potential ability to secure third-party research funding. Prior success in acquiring external funding will be considered an advantage. The ability and willingness to engage in academic self-governance and contribute to teaching in both German and English, as well as digitally, are expected.

In addition to the general requirements under public service law, the prerequisites for employment pursuant to Art. 57 Para. 1 BayHIG are a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and the special aptitude for academic work typically demonstrated by the quality of doctorate, as well as additional academic achievement through a habilitation or equivalent qualification, which may have been achieved outside of the university sector or through a junior professorship. Leadership of a junior research group is considered an equivalent academic achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 Para 10 Sentence 5 BayHIG.

Appointment as a civil servant is only possible if the candidate has not yet reached the age of 52. Otherwise, employment is possible within the framework of an employment contract under private law.
