Chair of Protestant Theology - Religious Education and Didactics of Religious Education

Welcome to the website of the Chair of Protestant Religious Education of the Institute of Protestant Theology at the University of Augsburg.

1. Introduction and subject of religious education

As part of the teacher training program at the Institute of Protestant Theology, this subject focuses on the theological discipline of religious education, with particular emphasis on the didactics of religious education in research and teaching. The subject of practical theology reflects religious and ecclesiastical practice and its orientation towards action in various social and institutional contexts. Religious education sees itself as a joint science between theology and education. Its subject matter is religious teaching, learning, and educational processes in society, family, school, and church. In the context of these two disciplines, religious and Christian forms are analyzed in their historical, life-historical, social, and institutional development and discussed concerning the practice of future religious education teachers. A particular focus here is the peace education perspective, which uses the example of interreligious educational processes.
