Restricted admission degree programmes (with NC)
Here you will find information on the allocation of study places for the first semester in undergraduate degree programmes with restricted admission (NC). This information only applies to degree programmes with a local admission restriction. This means all degree programmes with restricted admission except Human Medicine: Augsburg Competency-Based Medical Program (State Examination) (Modellstudiengang Humanmedizin). For master’s degree programmes, please refer to the respective degree programme webpages.

International applications
If you are applying with a foreign higher education entrance qualification that was not obtained in Germany, please refer to the information on international applications.
In the winter semester 2024/25, the following degree programmes have restricted admission (NC):
- Global Business Management B.Sc.
- Medien und Kommunikationswissenschaft B.A. (Media and Communications Studies, B.A.)
- Medizinische Informatik B.Sc. (Medical Information Sciences, B.Sc.)
- Rechts- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften B.Sc. (Law and Business Studies, B.Sc.)
- Wirtschaftsinformatik B.Sc. (Business and Information Systems Engineering, B.Sc.)
- Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen B.Sc. (Industrial Engineering, B.Sc.)
Deadline
In order to participate in the allocation procedure, you must apply by the deadline. The application deadline for applications for the winter semester is July 15 of the respective year, for applications for the summer semester January 15 of the respective year. This is an absolute deadline! This means that your application must be received by the university by this date at the latest. The date of the postmark does not count!
Application
The application process involves several steps.
1. Step: Create an application account
Study places are allocated via a process administered by the “Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung” (Foundation for University Admission). This means that you need a hochschulstart.de account. After registering, you will receive an application ID (Bewerber-ID, BID) as well as an application authorisation number (Bewerber-Authentifizierungs Nummer, BAN).
Following this, you can register via our online application portal (VIBS). Your data will be transferred from hochschulstart.de after you have entered your BIN and BAN on the registration page.
After registering, please complete the application in the VIBS portal. At the end of the application process, you will have to enter your BID and BAN again. This synchronises the application with hochschulstart.de.
Have you already been or are you currently enrolled at the University of Augsburg?
In this case, a new registration in VIBS may not be required. Please follow the instructions on the registration page (“When do I have to register?”).
2. Step: Submit the application
Once you have completed the application in the VIBS portal, the system evaluates your application. There are two possibilities here:
Your application is a regular admission (Status: “valid”)
Your application is evaluated by the system as a regular admission. This is likely the case if you have not submitted a special application and have acquired your higher education entrance qualification through the Abitur examination at a German secondary school (Gymnasium). In this case, you do not have to do anything further. You only need to submit your Abitur certificate when you enrol.
You receive an admission request (Antrag auf Zulassung) (Status: “received”)
Based on the information in your application, the system generates an admission request (Antrag auf Zulassung). This means that you have submitted a special application, or you have indicated a period of voluntary service (Dienst). In this case, you must print out and sign the admission request (Antrag auf Zulassung) and then submit it to us in writing together with your documents. Submission by e-mail is NOT possible.
Cases in which documents must be submitted include the following (NOT COMPLETE):
- recognition of a period of voluntary service (Anerkennung eines Dienstes)
- application based on hardship (Beantragung eines Härtefalls)
- application for compensation for disadvantage (Antrag auf Nachteilsausgleich) (waiting period and grade improvement)
- application for a second degree
- application with previously commenced university studies (transferring from a university of applied sciences)
- application with a foreign higher education entrance qualification that was not acquired in Germany.
Please note:
If you have received an admission request (Antrag auf Zulassung), you must submit it to us! If this is not received by the deadline, your application will not take place in the allocation process.
If you have been displayed an admission request (Antrag auf Zulassung), you have made a special application or indicated a special higher education entrance qualification that needs to be checked. As a rule, the admission request (Antrag auf Zulassung) will include a description of the documents you need to submit. You can also find information in the quota descriptions.
If you are applying for several degree programmes with restricted admission, you only need to submit your higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung) or certificate of voluntary service (Bescheinigung eines Dienstes) once.
Your application documents must be sent to the Registrar’s Office (Studierendenkanzlei) at the University of Augsburg. The address is given on the admission request (Antrag auf Zulassung). If you would like to hand in the documents personally, please hand them in at the Registrar’s Office (Studierendenkanzlei) or drop them in the letterbox outside the main university entrance (near the turnstile) located in close proximity to the university tram stop. Please only use this letterbox, as this is the only way to ensure that your documents are received on time. Do not place your documents in any other letterbox on campus (e.g., at a faculty).
Address of the Registrar’s Office (Studierendenkanzlei):
University of Augsburg
Studierendenkanzlei (Registrar’s Office)
Universitätsstraße 2
86159 Augsburg
In order to participate in the admission allocation process, you must apply by the deadline. The application deadline is the 15th of July in each respective year for applications for the winter semester and 15th of January for applications for the summer semester. These are cut-off deadlines! This means that your application must have reached the university by this date at the very latest. The date on the postmark does not count.
For “Old Abi-Graduates” (Alt-Abiturienten)
Please note that a separate application deadline for so-called “Old Abi-graduates” (Alt-Abiturienten) only applies to our Human Medicine: Augsburg Competency-Based Medical Program. For all other restricted admission degree programmes, the above-mentioned application deadline applies.
3. Step: Wait for the outcome
After you have completed your application and, if applicable, submitted your documents to the university, you can keep track of the status of your application in the application portal. When the status of your application is registered as “valid,” it means that everything is in order and that your application will be considered in the allocation process. Please note, however, that this may take a few days.
If your application is a regular case, the system will register it as valid (gültig).

Please note the following about applications via hochschulstart.de:
Please inform yourself about the allocation process on hochschulstart.de, especially if you have applied for several degree programmes. It is important to prioritise your applications. You will find a description of the allocation process on hochschulstart.de (Punkt 1. Informieren & Planen):
You have received an admission but are not yet enrolled at the University of Augsburg.
If you have received an admission, please accept it. You will then receive your letter of admission (Zulassungsbescheid). You can then complete your online enrolment via the application portal. You will be asked for additional information for enrolment. However, this is only the first step of enrolment. Enrolment is only complete when you submit the enrolment request (Antrag auf Einschreibung) together with the other documents (see next step).
You have received an admission and are already enrolled at the University of Augsburg.
If you have received an admission, please accept it. You will then receive your letter of admission (Zulassungsbescheid). However, you do not have to complete the subsequent online enrolment. You can instead change your degree programme (see next step).
Important:
Once you have accepted your admission, you will receive a letter of admission (Zulassungsbescheid). Please keep this in a safe place as you will only have access to it for a limited period of time. After the allocation process has been completed, applications will be deleted for data security reasons, including the letter of admission. A duplicate copy cannot be created.
4. Step: Enrolment
You are not yet enrolled at the University of Augsburg?
If you have accepted your admission and completed the online enrolment, please submit the enrolment request (Antrag auf Einschreibung) together with the documents to the Registrar’s Office (Studierendenkanzlei). The address is on the enrolment request. Information on the required documents can be found on the website of the Registrar’s Office:

You can find the application form as well as further information on changing degree programmes on the Registrar’s Office website.
